Turnpike Way

This project transformed a blank new-build garden into a peaceful, meditative retreat where the client could feel deeply connected to nature. Inspired by her love of wildlife, reading, classical music and birdwatching, the design embraces organic forms, naturalistic planting and a calm, solitary atmosphere.

A wildlife pond forms the centrepiece of the space, with circular decking that brings the client close to the water, plants and wildlife thriving below. Two bespoke, wall-mounted insect hotels sit within a trellis, softened by a fragrant climbing rose and honeysuckle; while a shaded stumpery creates a rich microhabitat with a hidden hibernaculum tucked beneath. The large central log doubles as a seat, offering quiet opportunities to observe wildlife at close range. Additional habitats, including hedgehog houses and bird feeders, were added after the build to further enrich the space.

Meandering paths and reclaimed materials sit alongside soft cottage planting and understated modern elements, creating a garden made for slow, restorative moments — birdsong with morning tea, or peaceful evening reading.

Client testimonial

"Having recently moved into a new build property with a blank-canvas of a garden I engaged with Beorn to bring my dream wildlife garden to life. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made and even though the garden is still in its infancy, I am absolutely delighted with it. I was impressed from the very beginning with his work ethic, values and sustainable approach and also with the time and care that he took to understand me and what I wanted and how he translated that into reality. I cannot recommend him highly enough."
